Eyjafjallajokull eruption site
This private super jeep day tour will take you to the 2010 eruption site of Eyjafjallajokull, where the lava is still warm!
The drive takes you along the beautiful south coast to Skogarfoss. Skogarfoss waterfall cascades 65 meters down from ancient sea cliffs and is considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland.
After looking at the waterfall a offroad drive up the mountain above to 850m above sea level where we visit the two brand new mountains Magni and Modi that were formed in the volcanic eruption. The lava field is still steaming hot. From there we hike for a short while until you arrive to the eruption site Fimmvorduhals situated between two glaciers, Eyjafjallajokull and Mýrdalsjokull.
In the afternoon an offroad drive into the ancient valley Thorsmork, crossing a number of some ice cold rivers flowing fast and coming down from glaciers. Once there we make a stop at Basar to enjoy the breathtaking scenery with its multitude of small gullies and valleys, clad with low birch-trees that create seemingly endless possibilities for the nature lover. Various hiking routes are available there and everybody can find a suitable one.
