Eyjafjallajokull and Thorsmork
This superjeep adventure takes you into a spectacular nature reserve named after Thor the god of thunder.
This breathtaking nature reserve is situatated between two glaciers. Icelands most famous volcanoes Katla and Eyjafjallajokull formed this area. Eyjafjallajokull erupted last in March 2010. We also take you into the 2010 eruption site of Eyjafjallajokull.
We visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall which cascades from ancient sea cliffs over 60 meters down to a shallow pool. It is possible to take a walk behind the waterfall and the scenery there is really beautiful.
Then we head into the ancient valley Thorsmork crossing number of rivers some ice cold fast flowing coming down from glaciers. Once there we make a stop at Basar to enjoy the breathtaking scenery with its multitude of small gullies and valleys, clad with low birch-trees that create seemingly endless possibilities for the nature lover. Various hiking routes are available there and everybody can find a suitable one.
We also get a close look at Gígjokull, an outlet glacier where the floods came down from the erupting crater above. There you can see where the steaming hot water from the crater melted a tunnel into the glacier, on it’s way down the canyon. This scenery is extremely beautiful in it´s roughness.
On our way back we stop at the rugged gorge of Stakkholtsgja for a short hike. This 2km long and 100m deep canyon offers a picturesque landscape and amazing experience.
